The OPTIONS program enjoyed continued success through its second year. This obesity prevention outreach for children attending Title 1 schools was provided to students from Charleston Progressive, Julian Mitchell, and James Simons elementary schools, as well as to participants of Burke’s Little Bulldogs Summer Camp. OPTIONS included Basketball Basics 101 provided by DAE, as well as nutrition education and physical fitness training provided by MUSC. Unfortunately, funding for this grant was not renewed due to state budget cuts. We are hopeful that a new source of funding can be found, at which time this program will be revived.
