The Jermel President Fun-da-mental Camp incorporates components of the Basketball Basics 101 program, and adds other enrichment activities, such as academic-focused brainteasers, motivational guest speakers, community service opportunities, field trips, nutrition education for youth and parents, referral to additional programs, and more. This Camp served youth ages seven through twelve in the downtown area at Charleston Progressive during summer 2009. The program fills a vital need in the community for positive, productive activities in which underprivileged youth can become involved during the summer months. Summer is a vulnerable time for youth who lack the resources to attend camps, so this program is offered completely free of charge in order to boost participation among the target population. DAE intends to run this program during scheduled sessions throughout the school year as well.
